We had a wonderful evening celebrating some of Westview's finest teachers at the BCSD retirement dinner. Fortunately, despite formally entering the retirement system, you'll still see many of these faces with us next year!

Good afternoon, WVM families!
This is a reminder that state testing begins this week at school. WVM students will take the SC Ready Reading and Writing tests this Tuesday 5/7 and Wednesday 5/8. Please make sure students arrive to school on time so that we can begin testing ASAP.
Here is a link to parent resources on the state's website and attached is our full end of year calendar: https://ed.sc.gov/tests/assessment-information/student-and-parent-resources/
We look forward to seeing our students' hard work pay off! Please reach out to the school with any questions. Thanks.

Bravo to the Westview Middle Band. Our students traveled to James Island this morning and collectively received 27 Superior ratings, 3 Excellent ratings, and 2 students passed the theory test. In our history, Westview has achieved OPA 24 times, with an unbroken streak for the last 18 years. We are so proud of our students and eternally grateful to their director, Mr. Ronnie Ward

May the 4th be with you! BCSD Family Night with the Charleston Battery is going to be a blast!

WVM's math department is hard at work still learning and growing as we approach state testing. Seen here, Dr. Manchester's classes outside working on dot plots and data collection. Also seen here, our math teachers meeting and practicing OGAP techniques in PLC's.

7th grade students celebrated Earth Day earlier this week by making "seed bombs". These were filled with local wildflower seeds, which they can plant to help pollinators and make Earth even more beautiful.

Westview Middle is almost fully staffed for the 24-25 school year and we are looking to fill just two positions! We have an 8th grade combined Math/Science and a Special Education resource position. Come be a part of our team!

Westview Middle will host it's April school improvement council (SIC) meeting today at 3:30 at Westview Middle School. Parents and community members are invited and encouraged to attend. Contact Dr. Cowan (cowane@bcsdschools.net) for more information.

These Warriors are about to take the stage for their Jazz Performance Assessment at Sangaree Middle School. We're sure they'll do great!

We're ready for another great week at WVM!
A few snapshots from last week: we watched the solar eclipse at dismissal, the Good Vibes Cart made its way around our halls, and our students are working hard to get ready for end of year testing (our 8th graders in Ms. Patula's math class seen here learning about volume of shapes).

The end of the 2023-24 school year is quickly approaching. Here are WVM's end of school year testing dates:

Did you know the current Berkeley County School District teacher of the year, Ms. Cayce Giddens, works right here at Westview Middle School? In addition to her teaching duties Ms. Giddens represents Berkeley County School District in local events. Recently her and her counterpart from DD2 were asked to toss the coin for the start of the match. We are so thankful for everything she does to represent the students and teachers of BCSD!

Don't forget to send in your registration and fee for our 2nd annual WVM Warriors Color Run!! The deadline for registration is Friday, April 12.

Visitors to Westview may have noticed some changes. Phase 1 of our 'facelift' was installed over break. Students and Staff were welcomed into to a new entryway this morning. Still to come: More Westview imagery in the front office and around campus and murals in the hallways.
If you missed it, a new bike rack was installed earlier this year between the elementary and middle school and all of the yellow caution curbing was repainted around the school. We have more exciting updates planned, so stay tuned!

On Saturday, March 30, 53 Orchestra students, under the direction of Mrs. Ambrose, and 116 students, under the direction of Mrs. Malcher, participated in the Carowinds Festival of Music, where they performed for ratings and comments. This was the Orchestra’s very first appearance at the festival, and the judges rated their performance as Excellent! Combined Chorus and Chamber Choir received Superior ratings. We are so proud of these students and their directors.

Spring has sprung! BCSD Spring Break runs April 1-5. All students return to school on April 8.

We celebrated our A honor roll students at our quarterly Principal's Honor Roll Breakfast this week. These students were treated to a great breakfast, including pancakes flipped by Dr. Bradley and Dr. Cowan and a fun cereal bar.
